Welcome to the Maine Alternative Health Guide ~ your Guide to Health, Naturally!

About the Guide

Our vision for the Maine Alternative Health Guide is to inform the public about effective, natural options to restore and maintain health. The guide features Complimentary Health Care Practitioners, Alternative Medicine and a wide range of Healing and Holistic Services. Natural and environmentally friendly products including whole foods, as well as Health Fairs and Workshops in Maine, are also featured.

Our goal is to keep the public informed of Alternative Health activities in Maine through our print and online directories and regional events calendar. In so doing, we not only encourage the continual progress of medical care, but also encourage and motivate the general public to take charge of their own health and well-being.

Feel-Good Guide

When the wellness/natural health movement first began showing up in the Pine Tree State, a little massage therapy here, a little Reiki there, it was met with more than a few raised eyebrows, Mainers being the wait-and-see types they are. These days, though, enough old-timers are going in for chiropractic and reflexology appointments that the disciplines that once seemed a little too Left Coast are becoming the norm. And the numbers of practitioners across the state have multiplied like echinacea plants. So it’s no surprise to see a handy new booklet avvailable that lists most of them by region and specialty. The thirty-five-page Maine Alternative Health Guide is great for anyone looking for Thai yoga in Brooksville or integrated energy therapy in Waterford. In it, the state is divided into five regions – Portland and southern communities, midcoast, Down East, western mountains, and central Maine (unfortunately there are no options for The County) – and each one has at least five or more listings of specialists in anything from acupuncture to health-spa retreats to pet wellness. The midcoast has the most listings, surprisingly, but the south coast and Portland area holds its own. You can find the booklet at natural food stores, book stores, healthcare centers, and you can request a copy from the publisher.
